Dr. Mohd Zaini bin Aris, 57, is currently Head, Community Financial Services of Maybank Group Islamic Banking (“GIB”) and Maybank Islamic Berhad (“MIB”). He oversees the GIB retail and SME portfolio across Consumer Finance and SME Banking. The role is accountable for driving growth strategies and ecosystem solutions to strengthen MIB’s position as the leading Islamic consumer financial institution and preferred SME partner, with a focus on regional expansion, digital reach and alignment with GIB’s strategic objectives. His role includes leading the Islamic Consumer Finance agenda across mortgage, cards and auto financing, advancing digital transformation, strengthening offering for affluent segments, and deepening Islamic SME Banking through enhanced market penetration and advisory capabilities, while ensuring robust governance, risk management and Shariah Compliance. Dr Zaini is also currently a director of Maybank Trustees Berhad.

Dr. Zaini brings over three decades of banking experience, having progressed from a Branch Officer to leadership roles within Maybank. He most recently served as Head, Community Distribution, overseeing the Group’s largest business segment and driving distribution transformation under Strategic Programme. Prior to that, he was Head of Consumer Finance from 2017-2020, during which the Mortgage, Auto Financing and Retail Financing business achieved its record profitability and contributed significantly to Group loan growth. He also has held senior roles including Advisor to the Head, Community Distribution at Maybank Indonesia, Head of SME Banking, and Regional Director for Perak Region.

Dr. Zaini holds a Doctor of Business Administration from City University, Malaysia and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Political Science from the National University of Malaysia. He is a Certified Credit Professional and holds licenses from a recognized professional body in life and general insurance (Malaysian Insurance Institute), as well as investment (Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia).
