JOB Description

This position is responsible for leading the Database Administration department to ensure optimal performance, availability and reliability of all organizational databases and applications. The role encompasses developing and implementing department-wide strategies and policies, coordinating with IT and business teams to oversee operations and drive improvements and providing leadership and guidance to database administration managers and their respective units. This position requires strategic oversight to align database management with organizational objectives.

Plan, organize and oversee all database administration activities across the department, ensuring efficiency and uninterrupted operations

2

Ensure the effective implementation of backups, recovery procedures and disaster recovery plans to safeguard data and maintain business continuity

3

Monitor and troubleshoot complex database and application issues, taking accountability for timely resolution and system optimization

4

Maintain comprehensive documentation of department-level database and application procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance

5

Coordinate major upgrades and patch installations with IT teams, ensuring proper planning, execution and minimal service disruption

6

Ensure compliance with database and IT policies as well as regulatory standards, maintaining accountability for adherence across the department

7

Report department-level database and application performance, incidents and improvement initiatives to senior management, providing actionable insights for decision-making

8

Lead and mentor managers and unit heads within the department, fostering collaboration, accountability and professional growth

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Knowledge and Skills

BSc or MSc Computer Sciences

  • Oracle Database 10g/11g/12c/19c (RAC and non RAC, Dataguard)
  • Oracle Applications DBA
  • Oracle Weblogic Server
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Mysql
  • Golden Gate
  • Database Migration Strategies
  • Oracle Exadata

Experience Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Information Technology or related field
  • 12+ years of experience in database administration OR database application support or IT support with at least 5 years in a senior managerial or leadership role
